A lot of Airdrie roofs date from one bad afternoon
The hailstorm that crossed Airdrie and northeast Calgary on June 13, 2020 caused about $1.2 billion in insured damage by industry counts. A big share of the roofs in this city were replaced in the months that followed.
Those storm roofs are coming up on six years old, and they sit in an awkward spot: too new to replace, too old to keep assuming everything under the shingles was done right. Some of that post-storm work was excellent. Some was done at speed by outfits that arrived with the claims and left with them.
We are HAAG-certified for residential roof inspections. We get on the roof, photograph what we find, and hand you a written report to keep with your warranty paperwork, whoever installed the roof. If the work is holding, you sleep better. If it is not, you find out while the installer's warranty still means something.

Built 2005–2020
Whole streets, same shingles, same clock
Most of Airdrie is newer than its trees. Neighbourhoods like Coopers Crossing, King's Heights and Bayside went up in the 2005-to-2020 build-out, which means their roofs age together, and hail doesn't pick favourites either.
When every house on a street was shingled the same year, the whole street hits roof trouble the same year. One neighbour replaces, three more get quotes, and the door knockers show up by the weekend. This is the work Airdrie calls us for most.

Storms this city remembers
- June 13, 2020Tennis-ball hail crossed northeast Calgary, Airdrie and Rocky View County in about 20 minutes. Insured damage passed $1.2 billion, roughly $800 million of it roofs, and around 70,000 homes and vehicles were hit. Most of the roofs in this city dated 2020 and 2021 exist because of that afternoon.
- August 5, 2024The next giant hailstorm ran a damage swath about 120 km long and 12 km wide through northern Calgary and out past Chestermere. Airdrie mostly sat outside it, which is why so many of the storm roofs here are 2020 roofs, not 2024 ones.
- Most summersSmaller cells that never make the news. Hail season runs June through August, and a ten-minute storm can bruise one neighbourhood while the next one stays dry.

Street by street
The original streets near Main Street and Nose Creek date from the 1970s and 80s. Many of those roofs are on their second or third set of shingles, and some still carry two layers, which changes both the tear-off and the price.
Big Springs, Sagewood, Luxstone and their neighbours went up through the 1990s and 2000s. A first roof there is at or past the age where a repair stops paying for itself.
Coopers Crossing, King's Heights, Bayside and the rest of the 2005-to-2020 build-out are mostly on first roofs, unless the 2020 storm replaced them. Those are the ones worth a roof inspection now, while the installer's warranty still means something.

Do you charge extra to come to Airdrie?
No. Airdrie is part of our regular service area, a straight run up the highway from our south Calgary shop. Jobs there go into the same Monday-to-Friday schedule as Calgary work, and the quote is built exactly the same way.

Usually, yes. A roof installed in the post-storm rush is coming up on six years old, and an inspection now tells you whether the workmanship is holding while there is still warranty to lean on. When is hail season in Airdrie?
June through August, and the two biggest storms on record landed in June 2020 and August 2024. If a storm has been through, book a look before the first snow. Damage gets harder to tie to a specific storm the longer it sits undocumented.
Should I put Class 4 impact-resistant shingles on an Airdrie roof?
After two billion-dollar hailstorms in five years, it is the conversation we have on almost every replacement here. Class 4 is the highest impact rating a shingle can carry, and some insurers price the policy accordingly. It costs more per square, so we quote both grades in writing and let you compare.
